[WATCH] Toby Albert hits six sixes in six balls for Hampshire against Sussex

Toby Albert struck six sixes in six balls during Hampshire's innings against Sussex in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup 2026 Group B match at the County Ground, Hove on August 9. Albert, batting at No. 3, walked in with roughly 15 overs remaining and finished with 86 off 37 balls, helping Hampshire reach 383-9 from their 50 overs.

The six sixes were spread across two overs. Albert hit two maximums off Nantes Oosthuizen to close the 43rd over, those blows also completing his fifty off just 26 balls. He then struck four consecutive sixes in the following over bowled by Ollie Kirtley, with Jake Lehmann having faced the first two deliveries of that over.

Mayes and Orr build the platform with a 225-run stand

Albert's 37-ball 86 has been confirmed as the quickest fifty-plus innings of the One-Day Cup 2026 season. He has now scored 221 runs across three matches in the tournament, including two fifties. His highest score before this match was 89, made against Durham in Southampton on August 2.

The foundation for Hampshire's total was laid by openers Ben Mayes and Ali Orr. Mayes, playing his first match of the season, scored 109 off 115 balls for a maiden List A hundred. Orr, a Sussex old boy, contributed 105 off 105 balls. The pair put on 225 runs across 35 overs for the opening wicket. Hampshire's 383-9 is the second-best List A score in the county's history, behind their 396-5 against Kent at Beckenham in 2022.

Sussex reply falls 51 runs short

In reply, Sussex were bowled out for 332, losing by 51 runs. Tom Haines and Oli Carter both fell cheaply. Charlie Tear top-scored with 111 off 94 balls, while Jack Leaning and Danial Ibrahim also contributed fifties. The defeat was Sussex's sixth in seven matches in the One-Day Cup 2026.

Across 26 List A innings overall, Albert has accumulated 962 runs at an average of 43.72, with seven fifties. This was Hampshire's fourth win of the One-Day Cup 2026. They face Derbyshire on August 11 in Southampton, with a victory in that match enough to take them into the quarter-finals.
