[Watch] Auqib Nabi picks up his maiden international wicket, dismisses Tim Seifert in 2nd ODI
The Jammu and Kashmir speedster removed Tim Seifert for a duck in the second over at Hnry Stadium, Wellington, on November 7.
Auqib Nabi, the Jammu and Kashmir speedster, claimed his maiden international wicket on November 7 during the 2nd ODI of the five-match series between New Zealand and India at Hnry Stadium in Wellington. The dismissal arrived in the second over of New Zealand's innings, ending Tim Seifert's stay at the crease for a duck.
How Nabi took the wicket
Sony Sports Network shared the clip of the moment on X, capturing the sequence that brought Nabi his long-awaited first international scalp in his third outing at this level. India had elected to bowl after winning the toss, and the match had been reduced to 47 overs per side after six overs were lost to rain.
Nabi opened the over by sending down four consecutive dot balls to Seifert, who had not yet scored. The pressure built steadily across those deliveries before Nabi shaped the fifth ball around off-stump on a length. Seifert moved to play an on-drive but was early onto the ball, which held up after pitching on the two-paced surface.
The mistimed chip lobbed towards mid-on, where Anshul Kamboj dived forward and scooped the catch cleanly. Seifert, who opens the batting for New Zealand, walked off for a five-ball duck. The wicket was Nabi's first at international level across all formats.
Nabi's international journey before Wellington
Nabi did not stop at one. He picked up a second wicket in the same innings, with New Zealand reduced to 11 for 2 after 5.4 overs, underlining a productive afternoon for the young fast bowler at Wellington.
India had arrived at this fixture with a series lead, having won the 1st ODI by five wickets in Auckland on November 4.
Nabi's path to this wicket had included two wicketless outings. He made his ODI debut against West Indies in Guwahati on September 30, 2026, receiving cap number 265. In the 1st ODI against New Zealand in Auckland, he returned figures of 0 for 33 from six overs. This spell with the new ball will give him a lot of confidence.
