Former teammates MS Dhoni and Deepak Chahar shared a banter-filled moment during their respective training sessions ahead of the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23, in the 2026 Indian Premier League.

In doing so, the former India captain mistakenly recreated an iconic viral video from 20 years ago, where he is seen being camera-shy.

In the clip posted by MI on their social media, Chahar approaches Dhoni for a casual meet-up, only for the CSK legend to ask the cameraman to move away and give them space to talk.

“You came along with a camera… get him out of here. Yes, otherwise we won’t be ablee to talk,” Dhoni was caught saying to Chahar at the Wankhede Stadium.

In saying so, Dhoni accidentally said the same thing he once said almost 20 years ago when a friend of his tried to film the wicketkeeper-batter. In the old grainy video clip, the right-handed batter asked the video recorder to take a picture instead of capturing him on film.

“Please take a photo. I won’t be able to speak whilst being recorded,” Dhoni said in the old clip.

Dhoni’s banter with Chahar, along with the old footage, can be seen below:

Dhoni and Chahar have previously been long-term teammates at CSK. The right-arm seamer spent six seasons at Chepauk, playing 76 matches in the iconic yellow jersey and taking 78 wickets along the way. The duo also formed part of three IPL-winning squads - in 2018, 2021 and most recently in 2023.

Both Dhoni and Chahar were also part of the Rising Pune Supergiants team in 2016 and 2017, but the fast bowler only played five times for the now-defunct franchise.
