[WATCH] Sooryavanshi's last-second DRS call removes Juyal in Duleep Trophy semifinal

A composed piece of captaincy from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi drew attention during the 2026 Duleep Trophy semifinal between Central Zone and East Zone on August 30. Standing in as captain for East Zone, the 15-year-old took a DRS review with just three seconds remaining on the review clock, and the decision went in his side's favour.

A video of the moment went viral on social media, showing Sooryavanshi acting quickly to challenge the on-field call. The review resulted in the dismissal of Aryan Juyal, who had been batting on 46 and looked well set to make a big score at the time of his departure.

How the DRS moment unfolded

Juyal, a wicketkeeper from Uttar Pradesh playing for Central Zone, was batting on 46 when he appeared to have edged a length delivery from Mukesh Kumar to the keeper, Kumar Kushagra. Kushagra took the gloves after skipper and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan was taken off the field with a wrist injury. Kishan's absence saw Sooryavanshi standing in as captain, being Kishan's deputy.

The catch saw a muted appeal from the East Zone side, with Sooryavanshi deciding to review with just three seconds remaining. The review showed a feather-edge off the bat on the way to the keeper, which meant the umpire was made to reverse the decision.

East Zone's route to the semifinal

East Zone won the toss through Ishan Kishan and chose to bowl first. The match is being played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru. Central Zone, led by Rajat Patidar, entered the semifinal as the defending champion and received direct entry into this stage of the tournament.

East Zone reached the last four by defeating North East Zone by an innings and 210 runs in the quarter-final. Shahbaz Ahmed scored 167, and Sudip Kumar Gharami made 146 in that match, with the two sharing a 150-run partnership. Sooryavanshi also contributed with the ball in that game, taking career-best figures of 2 for 11 from three overs of left-arm orthodox spin.

Sooryavanshi had served as Kishan's deputy during the quarter-final as well, continuing that role into the semifinal. His decision to use the review in the final seconds of the clock, resulting in Juyal's wicket, was among the notable moments from the opening day of the semifinal at Bengaluru.
