The former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh remarked on the fan base of Indian cricketers by comparing with the legendary MS Dhoni. The comparison turned into an all out war on social media between Virat Kohli and Dhoni fans.

The right-arm spinner stated in a show that only Dhoni has real fans and called all other cricketer’s fans as social media or paid fans, regardless of the following they have across handles. The comment from the off-spinner did not land well with fan clubs of Kohli, as they felt Harbhajan took indirect dig at Kohli and his fan base, leading to the start of a fan war.

Kohli’s fans took a dig at the wicketkeeper-batter with ‘Shame on Deshdrohi Dhoni’ on X (formerly as Twitter) and on the other hand, Dhoni’s fans retaliated with ‘#NationalShameKohli’ by pointing out Kohli at the reports of him playing for English county team Middlesex. Notably, the claims of Kohli's county stint are unverified and likely to be fake, since there is no official update on the same.

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans came to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 17 to pay tribute to the Indian legendary cricketer after his Test retirement. The passionate fans wore India’s Test jersey with Kohli written on the back to acknowledge the Delhi-born cricketer’s contributions in the red-ball format for the country.

The right-handed batter led India to great heights in the Test format, and so the fans chose the grand stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to honour Kohli’s achievements. The former skipper scored 9230 runs in the longest format of the game and has been playing a vital role in the RCB’s journey.

The clash between RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was completely washed out due to continuous rains at Bengaluru. The end result left KKR with 12 points and the defending champions were eliminated out of the IPL 2025.

RCB after the washed out game gained one point and moved to the top of the points table with 17 points, whereas CSK became the first team to be officially knocked out of the tournament under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
