India overcame Pakistan in a nail-biting ICC T20 World Cup 2022 encounter at the MCG by four wickets on Sunday, October 23. While it will go down as a memorable win for India, controversy erupted when the on-field umpire Rod Tucker signaled a waist-height no-ball off a full-toss bowled by spinner Mohammad Rizwan in the final over.

While pace icon Shoaib Akhtar questioned the umpire's decision, even former Australian left-arm spinner Brad Hogg also questioned the decision which completely changed the complexion of the game. The decision included a no-ball and Virat Kohli getting bowled on a free hit.

Kohli was bowled on a free hit: Brad Hogg

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Brad Hogg wondered why Virat Kohli's no-ball decision was not reviewed in the first place and why did the umpires refrain from calling Kohli's dismissal a dead ball off the next delivery.

India needed 16 runs from the final over and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam handed over the ball to Mohammad Nawaz with no other options left. The move seemed to work well with Nawaz accounting for a well-set Hardik Pandya before keeping Kohli and Dinesh Karthik quiet on the next three balls.

On the fourth delivery, Kohli cut loose and struck a six off a full toss which was called a waist-height no-ball by the umpire. The decision was not reviewed which made Babar livid and he had an argument with the officials.

Nawaz bowled a wide on the next ball and Virat was bowled off a brilliant yorker on the free hit. Nonetheless, the no-ball call stayed and the batters smartly ran three with the ball rolling off towards third.

Just like the two Asia Cup 2022 games between the Asian neighbours earlier this year, even this contest went right down to the wire as Ravichandran Ashwin hit the winning runs.
