Sourav Ganguly is one of the legends of Indian cricket. While he was in his prime, he was called ‘god of off-side’ for his ability to play off-side shots perfectly. It was Ganguly under whose leadership India achieved that famous win against Australia after being asked to follow on.
These are some of the reasons why fans still love Ganguly. Also, he is the current president of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and is responsible for making important decisions related to Indian cricket.
So, when a player and administrator like Ganguly speaks, everyone listens, which happened during an event in Gurgaon. He made several comments regarding the current turmoil in Indian cricket. However, the answer he gave regarding how he deals with stress has caught the attention of netizens, and Ganguly has received a lot of backlash because of what he said.
“There is no stress in life. Only wife and girlfriend give stress,” Ganguly said jokingly during the event.
Sourav Ganguly is termed sexist for his comment
After his comment went viral, people started calling him out and termed him sexist for putting out such a ‘joke.’ Ganguly is regarded as one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket, and his fanbase contains people from all across the world.
Ganguly’s words have no place in current times, and comments like that should receive backlash. This incident is ideal for people to understand the difference between what can be said and what should not be said in public. Ganguly was also asked about the player whose attitude he liked the most during the event. Ganguly said: “I like Virat Kohli’s attitude but he fights a lot.”
This statement comes at a time when Indian cricket is going through huge turmoil. Ganguly had mentioned that he asked Kohli not to step down from the captaincy position. But, Kohli denied the same during a press conference last week.
Also, Kohli was dropped from the ODI captaincy position by the selectors, and Rohit Sharma was picked as the new captain of the ODI side. Rohit will be leading the Indian team in South Africa next month. Meanwhile, Twitter wasn’t happy with Ganguly for his sexist comment.
Here are some of the reactions:
That comment by Ganguly is in such bad taste. Especially given how the pandemic and bubbles have affected players mental health. To say something as dismissive and blaming stress on their partners when we've had trolls blame players failures on wives regularly is plain stupid.

Less than 10 years ago men were laughing at rape jokes. And when we didnt we were called childish.
The absolute lack of understanding of how sexist this shit is and if the reverse were done on you all the time – we’ll see how funny you find it 🙂
