The India U19 squad for Sri Lanka tour has recently been announced. Arjun Tendulkar, de facto the son of the enigmatic Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, has been picked in the squad. The selection has attracted mixed reactions from the public. While some touted him to live up to expectations, many exemplified the decision as nepotism.

The team will play a couple of four-day matches followed by five One Dayers in the country. However, they won’t have Rahul Dravid as their coach, who guided the team, captained by Prithvi Shaw to a World Cup glory in New Zealand back in February. He will be with the India A team for their England tour. WV Raman and Narendra Hirwani will be in charge of the U19 team.

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian skipper opened up on Arjun’s selection in the squad and wished him luck for his career growth. “Lots of wishes to him. I have never seen him play. I hope he does well,” Ganguly was quoted by India Today.

Arjun’s short, but impressive run

Arjun Tendulkar, owing to his star status, has always been in the limelight. The media has never left any stone unturned in keeping an eye on Arjun’s whereabouts. He bowls left-arm fast and has been pretty effective in his prowess. Last year, he churned out a searing Yorker, which hit English batsman on the toes at the nets of the Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Thereafter, the batsman limped off the outfield. Arjun was also slated to play in the inaugural Mumbai T20 League, the brand ambassador of which was his father, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. However, he pulled out citing reasons of enhancing his skills for further challenges. He has also honed his skills with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Dharamshala last month.
