Thabang Moroe was appointed as the new Chief Executive of Cricket South Africa for a three-year term. Previously, he was the Acting Chief Executive. Back in September 2017, Haroon Lorgat resigned from his role owing to the reason that the T20 Global League didn’t get underway. In spite of completing the players’ draft and getting the teams on board, the event never took place.

Lorgat’s resignation also revolved around the scrapping of the T20 event. Moroe has confirmed that the CSA would pay $ 180,000 to each franchise as a ‘gesture of goodwill’. Meanwhile, Moroe has mentioned that the door isn’t closed for the six franchises and they can be involved in a new tournament the board is planning along with SuperSport.

We want to build a certain level of value

“As far as the previous owners getting involved in the new tournament‚ our stance is very clear with SuperSport that we want to work this thing from ground up.

“We want to build a certain level of value into the new league so that when the opportunity comes of equity‚ whether it will be selling our own equity in terms of ownership of the entire league or in the form of purchasing teams‚ we know exactly what we are selling and at what value,” Moroe was quoted as saying by Times Live.

“There are definitely issues of trust‚ you can pick that up with what the previous owners have been saying and the only way is to sit down and sort issues out. We have sent communication to the owners.

We will be meeting with some of them in Dubai and there is a possibility of flying over to Mumbai to meet the rest of them so that we can talk about possible relationships going forward,” he added.

CSA and SuperSport have joined as shareholders in the new T20 competition, which will be played between November and December later this year. Earlier, Chris Nenzani, the President of CSA sounded delighted on Moroe’s appointment. His task won’t be easy by any means bearing in mind the travails of South African cricket in recent times.
