South Africa finished off the 3rd Test in less than 3 days as they bundled out Sri Lanka under 200 in both innings at Johannesburg to complete the whitewash. South Africa posted 426 in their first innings with Hashim Amla scoring a century in his 100th Test along with JP Duminy who top-scored in the game with 155. Later South Africa enforced a follow-on after bowling out Sri Lanka for 131 in the first innings and completed the rituals on the same day by cleaning them up for 177 in the 2nd innings to bag an 118-run innings win. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

4 – This series is South Africa’s 4th whitewash win of 3 or more Test matches. All of the 4 have come at home. Last was in 2013 against Pakistan.

4 – Number of 300+ stands Hashim Amla has been part of in his Test career. Only Don Bradman and Graeme Smith have been part of 5 triple century stands in Tests. Amla missed out on joining the two by 8 runs as his stand with Duminy was worth 292.

5 – This series is the 5th time Sri Lanka got whitewashed in a 3 or more Test series. Their last was in 2012/13 in Australia. 4 of the 5 times they got whitewashed was away from home.

6 – Number of innings wins South Africa has over Sri Lanka. They won in 14 Tests against Sri Lanka out of which 6 are innings wins.

8 – Hashim Amla became the 8th player to have scored a century in his 100th Test. The last one to do was so also a South African player, Graeme Smith in 2012 at The Oval in 2012. It was Smith’s 99th Test for South Africa as he featured for ICC World XI in a Test in 2005.

11 – Hashim Amla scored his first fifty in Tests in 11 innings. He had three 40s in his 10 Test innings before this game.

16 – Number of wickets Sri Lanka lost on day 3, the most they lost in a day’s play in Test cricket. Sri Lanka lost 15 wickets vs India at Bangalore in 1994 also on the 3rd day.

18.80 – Sri Lanka’s batting average in this series, their 2nd lowest in a 3 or more match Test series. They had an average of 18.05 vs South Africa in 2000/01 series in South Africa.

26 – Number of centuries Hashim Amla has scored so far, the most by any South Africa batsman in his first 100 Tests. He went past Graeme Smith who has 25 centuries after 100 Tests. Overall, Amla’s 26 tons are the 6th most by any player after 100 Tests.

59 – Angelo Mathews’ 59 in 2nd innings of the first Test is the highest individual score in the series for Sri Lanka. This the 5th highest lowest individual score for a team in a 3 or more match series. Highest is 32 for Australia in 1888 Ashes.

68.54 – Percentage of South Africa’s total scored during Amla-Duminy’s 292-run stand, the 3rd highest % that has come in a Test innings for them. Highest is 70.61 % of runs during Amla-Petersen’s stand at Kolkata in 2010 in 1st innings against India.

292 – Amla and Duminy’s partnership of 292 for the 3rd wicket is the highest stand for South Africa for any wicket against Sri Lanka. Their previous highest partnership in Tests for any wicket against Sri Lanka was 205 by Kallis and Alviro Petersen at Cape Town in 2012.
