The only thing Sri Lanka had to cheer about on their 2 months long tour of South Africa was winning their maiden series in International cricket on South Africa by beating them in T20Is by 2-1. However, they couldn’t even come close in Tests and ODIs as they lost in each and every match of the two series.

In the 5th ODI, their final game of the tour, they conceded 384 after electing to field and settled down with 296/8, thanks to a late century from Gunaratne. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

0 – Number of players before Asela Gunaratne scored a century for Sri Lanka in ODIs batting at No.6. Gunaratne scored 114* in this match. Hashan Tillakaratne scored 100 in an ODI in 1995 batting at No.7, the only other century for Sri Lanka in this format at No.6 or lower position.

1 – Hashim Amla became the first player to score 4 tons at a venue in consecutive ODI innings. He scored a century in his last 4 ODIs at Centurion.

3 – Number of centuries Quinton de Kock has scored in his last 3 ODI innings at Centurion. He is one of the 5 players to score 3 consecutive ODI tons at a venue.

4 – Number of 150+ scores Hashim Amla has scored in ODIs, joint 2nd most by any player and the most for a South African. Only Sachin Tendulkar and David Warner (5) have more 150+ scores in ODI format than Amla.

5 – This is the fifth instance that South Africa has won a 5-match ODI series by 5-0 margin. The previous one was during the recent home series against Australia.

7 – Hashim Amla became only the 7th player to score 50 International centuries. He needed 348 innings for these, the fewest for any player.

8 – Number of players including Faf du Plessis who have scored 400+ runs in a 5-match ODI bilateral series. Hashim Amla has done it twice.

10 – Wickets taken by Imran Tahir in this series, the most wickets by a South African spinner in a bilateral ODI series. Previous most was 9 wickets by Nicky Boje against Australia in 2002.

11 – Number of consecutive ODIs in which South Africa have won; this is their 2nd longest winning streak in ODIs. They won 12 ODIs in a row in 2005.

24 – Number of 350+ totals South Africa has in ODI cricket, the most for any team. India behind South Africa with 23 totals of 350+ in this format.

263 – Runs aggregated by South African openers in this game, the 2nd most by them in an ODI. The highest is 281 runs in 2015 against West Indies at Johannesburg.

384/6 – South Africa’s total of 384 is their highest in ODIs against Sri Lanka. The previous highest was 367 in the previous ODI at Cape Town.

410 – Runs scored by Faf du Plessis in this series, the 6th most by anyone in a 5-match ODI bilateral series. These are the 2nd most by a South African after Hashim Amla’s 413 vs West Indies in 2015 at home.

2014 – Last time before this series, a team other than Australia was No.1 ranked team in ODI cricket was on November 22nd, 2014 and the team was India. After this series win, South Africa dethroned Australia to become the No.1 side.
