India will be aiming to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the ODI series against South Africa in the 3rd ODI in Cape Town where they will face the hosts who are with a fragile middle order. The Indian wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav accounted for 13 wickets in the first two ODIs by dismissing the South African middle cheaply. In the 2nd ODI, the spinners collectively took eight wickets to reduce the Saffers to their lowest total at home. The Aiden Markram led side will need to produce something special to stay alive in the series.

All the cricket stats & numbers to be looked out ahead of the crucial 3rd ODI in Cape Town:

3 – Number of times South Africa lost more than three matches in a home ODI bilateral series so far. They lost to Australia in four and more matches in the bilateral ODI series at home in 1994, 1997 and 2002. All those three series contained seven and more matches. On the other hand, India never defeated South Africa in a bilateral ODI series in more than two games.

5 – Ajinkya Rahane scored a fifty in each of his last five ODI innings. Only three other Indian players have scored fifty-plus in five consecutive ODI innings. Rahane could well become the first Indian player and the 7th overall to hit six consecutive fifty-plus scores in ODI history if he scores a 50+ in his next ODI innings.

5.6 – South Africa’s win/loss ratio at the Newlands in Cape Town is the best ratio for any team at a venue in the ODI format. (Min: 15 matches) South Africa won 28 out of the 33 ODIs they played at the venue and lost only five matches. South Africa, however, lost two of their last five ODI matches at this including their last meeting against India here in 2011.

8 – Number of consecutive ODI wins away from home for India which is their joint longest winning streak away from home. Starting from the last ODI of the series against Windies, India defeated Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in all five ODIs and South Africa in their backyard in first two ODIs of the series.

13.44 – Rohit Sharma’s batting average in the ODIs in South Africa. In the nine ODI innings he batting in South Africa, Rohit scored 121 runs with the best score of 23. South Africa is the only country where Rohit averaged less than 25 in ODI format and the also the only country where he is yet to score a fifty. (Min: 2 innings)

399 – Dismissals made by MS Dhoni in ODI format so far. He needs one more dismissal for becoming only the 4th keeper with 400 ODI dismissals. Dhoni also needs three more which will make him only the 3rd keeper in International cricket with 600 dismissals.
