The Johannesburg ODI was marked for the South African team sporting the Pink Jersey in their annual support to the “Breast Cancer” awareness program. However, the weather over the Wanderers turned out to be inconsistent with the first innings witnessing all cloudy, sunny and rainy conditions. Though no overs were lost during the near 50-minute break in the Indian innings, the rain threat continues to stay over the game.

After winning the toss, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli elected to bat first bringing Shreyas Iyer in place of Kedar Jadhav. AB de Villiers, who was ruled out from the first three ODIs of the series, made his comeback in the must-win match. India lost Rohit Sharma early once again as the Indian opener fell to Kagiso Rabada for the 6th time on this tour. Once again it was the Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli partnership that took India forward.

The pair put on a 158-run stand for the 2nd wicket in 27 overs before Kohli fell for an 83-ball 75. Dhawan, who featured in his 100th ODI game, celebrated the occasion with his 13th ODI hundred. Thus he became only the 9th player and the first Indian to score a century in the 100th ODI match. India were cruising at 200/2 in 34.2 overs when the lightning and rain halted the game. Dhawan struck a 105-ball 109 with 11 fours and two sixes before getting out in the 36th over.

From a stage where 320+ looked like a cakewalk, the Indian batsmen failed to get going as they ended with only 289/7 on the board. India made only 89 in 94 balls post resumption and lost five wickets in this period. MS Dhoni played till the end scoring an unbeaten 43-ball 42. India scored 22 runs in the last two overs without when even 280 looked far all of a sudden.

With already 50 minutes lost another fair, the South African innings is set to be reduced as the play halted during the South African innings with the home team on 43/1 after 7.2 overs. South Africa are currently tied on the par score but a minimum of 20 overs are needed for constructing an ODI game with a result. In case of the Saffers walking out after the loss of 30 overs, they will be chasing 155 i.e. 112 runs in the 12.4 overs.
