Team India skipper Virat Kohli has been in a record breaking form this season. The Indian captain has been a nightmare for the South African bowlers on the tour thus far. He has been scoring runs at will. In the ODI series, he shattered many records with his sublime form. With 3 centuries to his name in the series, Kohli finished as the leading run getter of the series. And now, he has started off on a positive note in the T20Is as well.

Kohli averages over 50 in all formats of the game. Hence, it will not be a surprise to see him pile up runs on the final two games of the tour. If Virat Kohli manages to score a cumulative total of 130 runs in the remaining two games, he will enter the elite league of legendary Viv Richards. Till date, Sir Viv Richards is the only cricketer to have mustered over a 1000 runs on a single tour.

He had achieved the feat against team England back in the year 1976. He had amassed 829 runs in four Test matches and had scored 216 runs in 3 ODIs to make a cumulative total of 1045 runs. In the tally of most runs on a single tour, there comes Sir Don Bradman at the number two slot following Richards’ tally of 1045 runs. The legendary former Australia cricketer had scored 974 runs across the five Test matches against the English side back in the year 1930.

Chance to surpass Bradman, Richards

Currently, Virat Kohli has 870 runs to his name on the tour. He needs only 105 more runs in two matches to surpass the tally of Sir Don Bradman. This looks like a very achievable target for the Indian captain. In order to surpass the tally of Viv Richards, Virat Kohli will have to play his best brand of cricket and score 175 runs in the remaining fixtures on the tour.

Breaking down Kohli’s number on the tour thus far, he aggregate 286 runs in the Test matches and then followed it up with an aggregate of 558 runs in the six ODI matches.
