The South Africa Women are scheduled to tour the West Indies for a three-match ODI and a five-match T20I series in September and October. The 50-overs matches will be a part of the ICC Women’s championship. The fixtures will get underway on September 16 and will end on October 6. The matches will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados and Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, in Trinidad.

The series still has a couple of weeks to go and the women cricketers are trying their trying hearts out to get themselves geared for the series. They are currently going through rigorous drills and intense batting sessions in order to counter the speculated slow and low batting wickets in the Caribbean Islands. Meanwhile, Hilton Moreeng, their head coach talked about the composition of their team.

I think the players will be up for it

“We looked at what we needed in the squad and concluded that our batting was inconsistent, so we brought in two young batters with proven records when it comes to scoring hundreds. We also brought in a young fast bowler to complement our line-up,” Moreeng was quoted as saying in www.sacricketmag.com

The Windies are the defending champions in the women’s edition as well and the head coach sounded confident that his team can give the home team a run for their money. “They’re a very proud nation and are the defending champions playing on home conditions, so it will be very challenging but I think the players will be up for it,” he added.

The Proteas women’s team didn’t have an auspicious outing in the T20 triangular series in England, involving New Zealand Women and England Women. The team captained by Dane van Niekerk managed to win only one out of their four matches and subsequently finished at the bottom of the points table.
