South Africa women’s team set for limited-overs series in India

The Indian women’s team hasn’t played international cricket ever since their defeat to Australia in the final of the 2020 T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground back in March last year. However, after a year, they are set for a return as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce a full-fledged limited-overs series against South Africa.

The two teams will be locking horns in five ODIs and three T20Is, but the venues and dates are yet to be announced. Since the series involves international commutation, the duration will be more than a month. Upon reaching India, the South Africa team will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine period. Other COVID-19 protocols will also be kept in mind during the series.

India women’s team set to play cricket again

“The details have been worked out, and the announcement will come soon. We’re coordinating with Cricket South Africa. The dates will be out soon,” a BCCI office-bearer was quoted as saying to the media, reported by Cricbuzz. The matches could well be played at a single venue to cut down on the hassles of travelling.

In the meantime, Cricket South Africa (CSA) is yet to send a confirmation on the tour. The women’s team is currently busy playing a home series against Pakistan. Their series will be coming to a close on February 3 with the final T20I at the Kingsmead in Durban.

As far as the Indian women’s cricketers are concerned, they returned to playing cricket in the Women’s T20 Challenge in November 2020. The four matches were played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium where Smriti Mandhana’s Trailblazers came out trumps.

Mithali Raj’s Velocity and Harmanpreet Kaur’s Supernovas were the other two teams in the short T20 league. The Trailblazers beat the Supernovas in the final. The tournament took place alongside the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Meanwhile, the BCCI, the world’s richest cricket board is set to come forth with an advertisement to recruit the support personnel for the national women’s team. Earlier, Narendra Hirwani and WV Raman were the bowling and head coach respectively.
