South African players racially abused by Bangladesh spectators, guilty arrested:
Fans have always been the biggest inspiration for the players. They worship, follow and idolize the cricketers, but every coin has two faces, this bright and happy side has an adjacent dark side as well. Few days back Sri Lanka vs Pakistan reported violence in the crowd which delayed the game by half an hour recently, another misbehavior from the stands, in Bangladesh was reported by the South African players where a spectator from the stands allegedly abused South African players, the comments made were racial.
The spectator was arrested by the Security personnel during the 2nd day of the first test between South Africa and Bangladesh in the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Wednesday. The incident took place just before the lunch break, the comments were made from the crowd under the big screen after which the Proteas complained against it during the interval to the match referee Chris Board, who further passed on the news to the Bangladesh Cricket Board. To which the board acted immediately.
“The match referee told us some spectators, stationed under the giant screen, hurled some abusive language to the South African players who are fielding in that arena,” BCB security consultant Hossain Imam told The Associated Press. According to the match referee as told by the South African players the comment made is strictly prohibited in the game of cricket. Necessary steps were taken, it was a group of spectators who caused the disruption but they managed to flee, resulting in only one of them being arrested.
This is one of those incidents where the behavior of one or a particular group of fans can malign the image of the game; which the officials are desperately attempting to maintain as per the gentleman’s standards, which the game has built for itself.
