Recently a Ranji Trophy game between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh was interrupted due to a man who drove his car into the pitch. Following the bizarre incident, it’s now being reported that the spectators have been barred from entering the Air Force Ground.

The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) which is in charge of the ground, made the decision following the security breach on Friday. The authorities faced much embarrassment since the match stared international cricketers like Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma and Rishabh Pant who were all on the field.

“The Services authorities did not allow any general spectator inside the ground. There was a double lock at the entrance gate which was unmanned during the security breach. Only journalists with valid BCCI central accreditation card were allowed. In fact, one spectator jokingly produced his Aadhar Card at the gate,” a DDCA official was quoted as saying by PTI.

His ex-wife apologised to Ishant Sharma for the inconvenience

Vernika Verma who claims to be the accused Girish Verma’s ex-wife took to Twitter and apologised Delhi captain Ishant Sharma for her former hubby’s act.

“I deeply apologise on behalf of my ex-husband. Shocked to see this Really sorry,” she tweeted.

This one-off incident will not be the reason to shift the game

As reported by the Times Of India, an unnamed DDCA official who’s a part of the Cricket Advisory Committee ensured that the incident will have no effect on any game which is supposed to be played at the same ground. The Delhi team is scheduled to play their last home game against Maharashtra from the 17th to 20th of November.

“Technically, we can also play at The Feroz Shah Kotla as if we don’t use the centre strip. But the decision will depend on our position in the points table after the Karnataka away game. Even Palam is in contention,” he remarked.

The DDCA official also mentioned that a lot depends on Ishant’s availability who’s expected to be a part of the Indian XI against Sri Lanka

“We have not yet booked the Palam Ground but this one-off incident will not be the reason to shift the game. A lot will depend whether we will get Ishant Sharma for the match or not. A note has been sent to the Indian team management to release Ishant if he is not in the playing XI for the first Test in Kolkata,” he added.
