Speedster Jasprit Bumrah believes in achieving the ‘impossible’

India won the opening Test against Australia at Adelaide Oval by 31 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Virat Kohli and Co were somehow deemed to be the favourites and didn’t do their reputation any harm. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India put on 250 runs in 88 overs. Their top order couldn’t quite deliver and flattered to deceive.

However, Cheteshwar Pujara put his head down and notched 123 runs from 246 deliveries with the help of seven boundaries and a couple of sixes. The rest of the batsmen did well, but couldn’t build on their starts. During the Australian innings, only left-handed batsman Travis Head scored 72 runs from 167 balls with a few small scores from the rest of the batters.

India get over the line

The lower order also put forward a stern resistance. With a lead of 15 runs, India made a steady start. KL Rahul and Murali Vijay didn’t blaze away, but gradually pressed the accelerator, especially Rahul, who scored 44 runs from 67 balls with three boundaries. Ajinkya Rahane and Pujara scored 70 and 71 respectively to help his team’s cause of setting a decent target.

The lower order, yet again, couldn’t perform. Chasing 323 runs, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals, but this time around, their batsmen showed better application. Shaun Marsh top-scored with 60 from 166 deliveries with five boundaries. The Australian lower order put their heads down and tried to defy the inevitable- an Indian victory and an Australian defeat.

Nevertheless, they played well, but Australia fell short by 31 runs. In the meantime, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ecstatic after the stupendous victory. He took to Twitter and wrote, “It always seems impossible until it’s done! What a great victory to hold on to! #AusVsInd,”
