Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is set to host a charity match between World XI and Sri Lanka XI on September 8 in a Twenty20 match planned to be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

The match that will be played two days after the one off T20I between Sri Lanka and India, will feature a host of present and retired overseas stars. We might well get to see some big names in the game. But nothing has been confirmed as yet. The charity match is expected to cover a huge number of global audience.

Negotiation with the overseas players

“The negotiations are going on with the overseas players and we will be able to confirm the names soon,” the SLC source told Cricbuzz. The funds collected from the game will proceed towards the victims of the recent flood and the patients suffering from the chronic kidney disease that has caused more than 20,000 deaths in the last 20 years.”

Sri Lanka are currently playing India in the Test series. Both the sides will take part in an ODI series after this. It will be a five match ODI series and post that both the sides will play the one-off T20I.

India have won the Test series and the 3rd Test is currently under way. India beat the hosts under four days and with a margin of an innings and 53 runs. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was named the man of the match for his gritty 70 during India’s innings. He also picked up seven wickets in the match, including his ninth fifer.

It was also reported that both Jadeja and Ashwin will be given rest after their heavy work out which saw the duo bowl over 108 overs each during the first 2 Test matches. Jadeja has been suspended for breaching ICC’s code of conduct and is not taking part in the 3rd Test match.
