Sri Lanka v Pakistan 2nd T20I – 5 talking points: On 1st August, Colombo witnessed the final hammering on the nail as Pakistan locked horns with Sri Lanka for one final time in the 2nd and last T20I match of the series. The Sri Lankan’s did everything which they could have to deflate the triumphant Pakistani side but Pakistan inflicted a T20I series whitewash over Sri Lanka. The match was set-up by the blistering knock of Shahid Afridi but it was the heroics of Anwar Ali which routed out the Sri Lankan’s from the match as Pakistan won the match by 1 wicket in the final over. So, have a look at the Sri Lanka v Pakistan 2nd T20I – 5 talking points: 1. Heroics of Anwar Ali: Anwar Ali. (Photo Source: AFP) Although, Anwar Ali had a horrendous time with the ball in hand but he more than made up for it with a breath-taking 17 ball 46 run knock which transpired Pakistan to their first ever 1-wicket glory in T20I cricket. When Ali arrived at the crease, the Pakistan team was tottering at 107-7 which shattered the hopes of millions of Pakistani’s back home. But, Ali’s brute innings led his team to a victory from the jaws of defeat. He blasted 4 sixes and 3 fours en route of his knock which came at a strike-rate of 270. 2. Afridi secured miserly figures of 1/30 in 4 overs. But, it was with his batting that Boom Boom showed his true colours. The 35-year old amassed 45 run in just 22 balls with the help of 4 maximums and 1 boundary at a Strike-Rate of 204. It was Afridi’s knock which gave courage to the wobbling batting side after which Ali glorified his captain’s efforts with his mind-boggling knock. 3. Sri Lanka’s poor bowling overpowers their batting: (Photo Source: AFP) Sri Lanka continued their listless performances in the bowling department due to which they lost the match which was always in their pocket after their batters put up 172 runs on the board. Malinga who is the most experienced Sri Lankan bowler continued his shambles trend as he was the most expensive bowler for the team in the match. Earlier, the Sri Lankan batting duo of Kapugedera and Jayasuriya blasted 48 and 40 runs respectively only to end up on the losing side after dismal bowling of the home side. 4. The trio of Anwar Ali, Mohammad Irfan and Sohail Tanvir didn’t seem threatening. Ali and Tanvir conceded in excess of 40 runs in their quota of 4 overs. In the slog-overs, the pacers missed the Yorker length on every other occasion and ruined the good work of their spinners who combined for 54 runs in 8 overs and shared 3 wickets among them. 5. (Photo Source: AFP) When going gets tough, then it’s the ultimate test of the character and nerves of a team, the difference between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the end was that the visitors could control their freakish nerves in the boiling moments of the match. Pakistan emerged as the victors in the battle of nerves as the young Sri Lankan side faltered in the crucial moments of the game as their fielders and bowlers lost their cool. In the last over, Pakistan was in a tricky position with 6 runs to make and only 1-wicket remaining. But, the cool and calm head of Imad Wasim ensured a famous victory for the visitors with a match and series winning six.
