Sri Lanka took a 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series against West Indies with a record 161-run win in the Hambantota ODI. Avishka Fernando (127) and Kusal Mendis (119) smashed hundreds after the home team lost a couple of early wickets. Their partnership of 239 laid the platform for a big total of 345/8.
West Indies made a decent start to the chase with a 64-run opening stand but they collapsed since then. The Caribbeans kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 184 after losing their last three wickets for 0 runs.

161 – The 161-run win by Sri Lanka in this match is their biggest ODI win in terms of runs against West Indies. Their previous biggest ODI win over the Caribbean team for the Lankans was by 113 runs in the 2007 World Cup.
345/8 – The total of 345/8 by Sri Lanka is now their highest ODI total against West Indies. The previous highest was 338/6 during the last year’s World Cup match in Chester-le-Street. This was also the first 300+ total in the SL-WI ODI matches on Sri Lankan soil.

21y 327d – Avishka Fernando, at the age of 21 years and 327 days, is the 2nd youngest Sri Lankan to score a century at home in a Men’s ODI. Upul Tharanga was 20 years and 212 days old when he scored 105 in the 2005 Colombo ODI against Bangladesh.
127 – Avishka’s 127 is now the 2nd highest individual against West Indies in the ODI format for Sri Lanka. Avishka Gunawardene’s 132 in the 2000 Champions Trophy match is Sri Lanka’s highest ODI against the Caribbean team. This is also the highest ODI score by Sri Lanka at home since Kumar Sangakkara’s 169 in the 2013 Colombo ODI against South Africa.
A record partnership by Mendis and Avishka:
239 – The partnership of 239 between Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis is now Sri Lanka’s highest for 3rd or lower wicket in ODI format. The previous highest was 226 between Marvan Atapattu and Mahela Jayawardene against India in the 2000 Sharjah ODI.
The Fernando-Mendis partnership is also the first 200+ partnership in ODI format for Sri Lanka since Dickwella-Gunathilaka’s twin 200+ partnerships in the 2017 home ODI series against Zimbabwe.
A six-less inning:
345/8 – Sri Lanka’s total of 345/8 is now the highest in Men’s ODI cricket without a six. The previous highest ODI total in Men’s cricket without a six was 333/6 by England against Australia in the 2011 Sydney ODI.
