Former South African cricketer, Nic Pothas, has retired from his role as the fielding mentor of the Sri Lankan cricket team. The 44-year old wrote a letter addressed to the Sri Lankan cricket (SLC) where he steps from the position from April 13 with immediate effect. In July 2016, he was appointed for the role and on July 2017, he also served as the interim coach in absence of head coach Graham Ford.

In the communication with the board, the former Proteas wicket-keeper batsman mentioned the resignation to have come at the most appropriate time. Also, he extended his gratitude of working with the team and thanked the board for presenting him the role. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that the experience has helped him improve as a coach as well.

“Pleasure and privilege to work”- Nic Pothas

“After two incredible years with Sri Lanka cricket, this is the right time for me to move on to other opportunities, which will allow me to spend quality time with my young family. I would like to thank Sri Lanka Cricket for affording this special opportunity. I would also like to thank the Board, my fellow coaches and all the players I have had the pleasure and privilege to work with, for all the support they have provided me” Pothas mentioned in the letter.

“Finally, I must thank all the supporters who follow Sri Lanka so passionately, for all their support during my tenure. It has been an honor and a privilege to be involved with Sri Lanka. It has given me the opportunity to learn and improve as a coach as well as to contribute to a very talented bunch of players. It will always hold a special place in my heart,” he further added.

Sri Lanka will tour the Windies for a three-match Test series in June following the end of the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League.  Thereafter, the Lankans would host South Africa for a two-Test, a five-match ODI followed by a one-off T20 International.
