Celebrities poured in with congratulatory messages on Twitter soon after Srikanth Kidambi won the Australia Open Super Series men’s single title. He beat Olympic champion Chen Long in straight sets, 22-20, 21-16 to win his young career’s fourth title. In 2014, the 23-year old became the first Indian to win a Super Series Premier Men’s title when he won the China Open Super Series Premier.

The ace badminton player won his second title in a week after he won the Indonesia Open Super Series Premier on Sunday. One of the umpteen people who wished him was Sachin Tendulkar. A proud Indian, Tendulkar has a keen interest in almost every sport. He congratulated Srikanth on winning his 2nd successive Superseries title. He also wrote: “proud of you champion!”

Srikanth will be a proud man as he was at the cynosure post his win and to receive a message from the greatest sporting icon of India must have been very pleasing. He was humbled and posted a reply to the tweet saying: “Thank you, sir. Your tweet is like a billion wishes for me. Will keep giving my best for the country.”

Srikanth, like millions of Indians, is a Tendulkar fan and had the good fortune of meeting the legend at an event back in 2015. He was awestruck when the great man had said that he will be the best in the world very soon.

“I didn’t get much time to talk to him but those 5-7 minutes that I spent with him, he told me that I will definitely become the World No. 1 someday, and it was a big thing coming from Tendulkar,” Srikanth said about that meeting in 2015.

Srikanth’s rapid rise in the world of badminton has been phenomenal. Himanta Biswa Sharma, the president of Badminton Association of India, announced a cash reward for the World No. 11 player of Rs 5 lacs.

Amongst popular personalities, Virender Sehwag, RS Rathore and legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan also wished the badminton star.
