Bangladesh’s 17-year journey in Test cricket will hit a milestone as they play their 100th Test match against Sri Lanka at Colombo’s P Sara Oval. Bangladesh is among the teams that play very little Test cricket, and this hasn’t allowed them to translate their limited-overs success to the longest format of the game. Ahead of the historic Test for Bangladesh, here we look at the stats, numbers, and records in view of the Test match.
0.105 – Bangladesh’s win-loss ratio of 0.105 in Test cricket till date is the worst ratio for any team in their first 100 Test matches. Next is: 0.152 for New Zealand.
2 – Number of instances of a team’s highest run-getter or wicket-taker featuring in their 100th Test (Individual toppers as in team’s first 100 Tests). Bruce Mitchell of South Africa featured in his team’s 100th as their highest run-getter in Tests while Aravinda De Silva and Muttiah Muralitharan, the highest run-getter and wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in their team’s first 100 Tests respectively, appeared in the XI of their team’s 100th Test match. Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, who are Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer and wicket-taker till now, are expected to feature in their team’s historic Test.

8 – Number of Test matches Bangladesh have won so far, the 2nd fewest for any team in their first 100 Test matches. Fewest: 7 wins by New Zealand.
16 – Bangladesh has taken 16 years and 4 months for playing their 100th Test match since their inaugural Test match, the shortest time period taken by any team to play first 100 Tests. Sri Lanka took 18 years and 4 months to play their 100th Test after making their debut in this format of the game.
30* – Number of Tests Mushfiqur Rahim has led Bangladesh in so far; this makes him the longest-serving Test captain for Bangladesh. (excluding the upcoming Test)
61 – Mohammad Ashraful is Bangladesh’s most-capped player in Test cricket with 61 Test match appearances. Among the current squad, Mushfiqur has played 53 standing at second while Tamim and Shakib have featured in 49 apiece, jointly placed 4th in the most Test appearances list for Bangladesh.
76 – Number of Test matches Bangladesh have lost so far, the most for any team in their first 100 Test matches. Next most: 63 Test losses for Zimbabwe.
96 – Number of fielding dismissals Mushfiqur Rahim has made so far. He needs 4 more to become the first Bangladesh player to make 100 fielding dismissals in Test cricket. 95 out of the 96 dismissals effected by Rahim were as wicketkeeper.
170 – Number of wickets Shakib Al Hasan has taken so far; the most by any Bangladesh player in Test cricket. Mohammad Rafique is the only other player from Bangladesh to take 100 wickets in Test cricket.
2008 – Last time Bangladesh featured in a Test match without making any changes to their playing XI from the previous match was way back in December 2008. They have played 41 straight Tests since 2009 without fielding the same XI in consecutive Tests.
3546 – Tamim Iqbal’s Test match aggregate of 3546 is the highest for a Bangladeshi player in Test cricket. Bangladesh’s top 3 run-getters are currently featuring in the squad for 100th Test. Shakib (3348) and Mushfiqur (3191) are the other two.
