Rashid Khan, the young leg-spinner from Afghanistan continues to create history wherever he goes as he took a 7-wicket haul against the West Indies in the first of the 3-match ODI series. He picked up 7/18 in his 8.1 overs to bowl out West Indies for 149 who were chasing a 213-run target to win the game.

Rashid was brought in to bowl in the 23rd over and was on a hat-trick twice in his first two overs. He completed his 5-wicket haul by end of his 4th over and came back into the attack towards the end of West Indies’ innings to add a couple of more wickets to his bag.

His bowling figures of 8.1-1-18-7 are the 4th best bowling figures in the ODI cricket. Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas holds the record for the best bowling figures in ODIs as he took 8 wickets for 19 runs against Zimbabwe in 2001, the only 8-wicket haul recorded in ODI history so far.

Shahid Afridi picked up 7/12 against West Indies in 2013, the 2nd best bowling figures in ODIs and the best bowling figures for a spinner in this format. Glenn McGrath’s 7/15 against Namibia in 2003 are the only other bowling figures in ODIs better than Rashid’s effort.
