In all, as on April 29 2017, there have been 8 such instances when the captain and the keeper have scored fifties in an innings in the IPL.
The first instance of this happening was in the 2014 edition of the tournament. The 2016 edition of the tournament saw 5 such instances happening. AB de Villiers scored a brilliant 82 and Virat Kohli plundered 75 runs in the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Bangalore.
Kohli was then involved in other instances but with a different wicket-keepers. Kohli and KL Rahul achieved this feat twice in the previous edition of the tournament. Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa hold the distinction of doing the rare double on 3 occasions with their first coming in the previous edition against the Kings XI Punjab.
