David Warner was at his destructive best on Wednesday (April 20) as the Australian dasher brought up his third successive half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. On a track where Punjab Kings batters struggled to put the bat on ball, Warner scored an unbeaten 60 off just 30 deliveries as Delhi Capitals chased down 116 in just 10.3 overs, clinching the contest by nine wickets.

During the course of his innings, Warner also added another feather to his already-illustrious hat as he became the only second batter to amass 1000 or more runs against a franchise in IPL. Warner has always enjoyed playing against the Mohali-based team and his tally of 1005 runs is the highest for any batter against PBKS.

I tried to put my best footwork forward: David Warner

The only other batter on this list is Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma, having scored 1018 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. Notably, Warner has 976 runs against KKR and on April 28, he’ll have the chance to become the first batter to score over 1000 runs against two franchises in the gala competition.

Meanwhile, Warner, following the conclusion of the game, credited bowlers for making his task easier. “I think the bowlers did a fantastic job and made it easier for us. We had to go hard in the powerplay during the chase. It was a different surface compared to the last night, but credit to our bowlers,” said Warner.

Besides the left-handed batter, his opening partner Prithvi Shaw was equally destructive as he scored 41 off just 20 balls. Thanks to the duo’s mayhem, DC added 81 runs in the powerplay overs, the highest for any team this season. “I was just trying to be positive and am happy to have played with Shaw. For me, it’s about sticking to the basics and I tried to put my best footwork forward, hopefully, I’ll be able to do going forward,” added the 35-year-old.

Meanwhile, DC are now sixth in the points table with three wins and as many defeats in a total of six outings.
