England were often made fun for not winning big tournaments in cricket despite being the country that invented the sport. However, over the last few years, the English side has developed a lot in limited-overs cricket and has become a team to beat. The 2017 Champions Trophy is an example for that as they made it to the semis without losing a game in the group stage.

Over the last few years, England’s performance in the ICC tournaments has been brilliant while they have almost parallelly seen a few lows. The Poms won their first ever ICC event in 2010 when they defeated Australia in the final of World T20 2010. They ended up as runners of 2013 Champions Trophy and 2016 World T20 in this period.

Possessing one of the best line-ups at the moment, England would be hoping to bag their maiden ICC ODI tournament title. For that, they have to beat the Pakistani side in the semi-final at the Birmingham to face another Asian side, either India or Bangladesh in the final at The Oval.

Though England’s record in ICC tournament finals hasn’t been great, their record in the semi-finals reflects positive figures as they have won 7 out of the 10 ICC tournament semis they have played so far and won the last 3 they have featured in. In the Champions Trophy, England made it to the semi-finals three times before this and qualified for the finals on two occasions, both the times when England hosted the CT.

Other than the ICC events, the last time England featured in the semi-final of a multi-nation tournament was in 1989 Nehru Cup where they lost to Pakistan. It was the only meeting between England and Pakistan in a semi-final game in International cricket and the CT 2017 will be their first in an ICC event semis. England have won three out of the 7 semis in which they batted first whereas while chasing, they have won all the 4 semi-final games.
