Hashim Amla continued to break the batting records in the ODI format as he carried his brilliant form into limited-overs cricket by hitting a century against the Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy. Amla, who holds the record for fastest to 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 runs in ODIs has scored his career’s 25th century in ODI cricket in his team’s opening game of the tournament.

After Sri Lanka invited South Africa to bat first, the Africans got off to a slow start but Amla paced the innings very well by batting along with Faf du Plessis and took his side towards a big total. He completed his fifty in 56 balls and exactly took the same number of balls for his 2nd fifty of the innings. His innings of 103 with 5 fours and 2 sixes came to an end in the form of a runout.

Amla’s century in this game was his 5th ODI century against Sri Lanka and the 25th overall which made him only the 6th player to score 25 ODI hundreds and the first one from South Africa. AB de Villiers has scored 24 ODI centuries till now. In fact, Amla is the quickest to hit 25 ODI centuries as he needed only 151 innings. Previous fastest to hit 25 ODI 100s was Indian captain Virat Kohli who took 162 innings.
