It needs a special partnership if you are 33/4 chasing 265 in a 50-over game and Bangladesh got exactly the same in the Champions Trophy game against New Zealand at Cardiff from the Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah pair. The pair put on the highest stand in Bangladesh’s ODI cricket, in fact, their first ever double century stand in this format.

The duo shared a 224-run stand in just 34.5 overs for the 5th wicket and took their side to a famous win and kept Bangladesh alive the tournament. Their 224-run stand is the 2nd highest partnership in the Champions Trophy history. The highest was an unbeaten 252-run stand between Australia’s Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson against England in 2009.

The only other double century stand in the Champions Trophy was by Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Malik pair, who shared a stand worth 206 runs for the 4th wicket over India in 2009, a week before Ponting-Watson broke it. The huge stand between the Bangladeshi pair against New Zealand is the 3rd highest in ODI cricket for the 5th wicket and the 13th biggest stand for any wicket in an ICC ODI tournament.

The top 10 partnerships in Champions Trophy has two entries from Bangladesh, the other one being the 166-run stand in the first game of this edition over England between Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim for the 3rd wicket; the highest stand for 3rd wicket in CT and the 9th highest overall.
