Lucknow Super Giants have announced their arrival in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in grand style. The KL Rahul-led side, in their second game of the season, thrashed defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets to open their account in the team standings. Notably, LSG chased down a mammoth 211 in the game, recording the fourth highest successful run-chase in the history of the competition.

Speaking of how the game panned out, the coin landed in LSG’s favour and KL Rahul had no hesitation in electing to field first. Chennai batters embraced the challenge and posted a daunting 210/7 in their allotted 20 overs. While opener Robin Uthappa slammed a quickfire half-century, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, and skipper Ravindra Jadeja played handy cameos.

Evin Lewis took LSG over the line

In reply, LSG got off to a perfect start with openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock adding 99 runs for the opening wicket. While the former fell prey to Dwaine Pretorius after scoring 40, De Kock made a well-paced 61. The baton was then passed onto Evin Lewis, who was batting at an unfamiliar number four position.

The West Indies dasher lived up to the expectations and slammed an unbeaten 55 off just 23 balls. He also received significant support from Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni. As a result, LSG crossed the line with a couple of deliveries to spare.

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, the Super Giants chased down the fourth-highest target in IPL history successfully. The top spot is taken by Rajasthan Royals, who chased down 224 against Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) in IPL 2020. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are the other teams finding a place in the top five besides Rajasthan and Lucknow.
