Stats: Mohammed Siraj takes an 8-wicket haul for India A against Australia A

Mohammed Siraj has consistently knocked the doors of the Indian Test team with his superb performances with the ball while playing for India A. In the eight FC innings Siraj bowled in 2018 for India A team thus far, he bagged 37 wickets at an average of 14.22 taking a wicket every 29.38 deliveries. He claimed three five-fers and four four-wicket hauls in these eight innings and took three wickets in another innings.

In the ongoing 2-match Unofficial Test series against Australia A, the young bowler ran through the visiting team’s line-up on the first day of the series. Siraj registered his career-best figures of 8/59 in 19.3 overs to restrict Australia A to only 243. His 2nd spell of 6-4-9-4 around Lunch interval reduced the Aussie side from 78/0 to 90/4. Usman Khawaja kept the fight intact with a century as he shared a 114-run partnership for the 5th wicket with Marnus Labuschagne.

Siraj once again turned out to be the breakthrough provider for India A when he cleaned up Labuschagne for 60. Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets while the Hyderabad pacer bagged the remaining three including Khawaja’s wicket as Australia lost their last six wickets for just 39 runs. Siraj’s bowling figures read 19.3-7-59-8 which is the best by any player for India A in first-class cricket. Four of his eight wickets were via LBW. He is also the first player to take eight wickets in an FC innings while playing for India.

Three other players have taken 7-wicket hauls before the 24-year-old in Unofficial Tests for India A with all of them coming against the West Indies A. The first of them was Rahul Sanghvi who took 7/68 in 1998 also at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Jaydev Unadkat bettered Sanghvi’s haul when he claimed 7/41 in 2010 at the County Ground in Leicester. Left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt took 7/113 in an unofficial Test against the Windies in 2013 played in Shimoga.
