Stats: Most sixes in a T20 International match

Australia and New Zealand were involved in an amazing run-fest at the Eden Park in Auckland on Friday when the records tumbled. It was no less than a graveyard for the bowlers as the batsmen from both the sides feasted on it. A total of 489 runs were scored in 38.5 overs as Australia chased down a mammoth total of 244 runs and created a world record. However, a total of 32 maximums were hit during the game which also topped the charts albeit it was the joint-highest.

While New Zealand smashed 18 sixes after opting to bat first, the visitors smashed 14 out of the ground. The game though missed out on making a world record as they could only equal the feat of the most sixes in a T20 International. The match between India and West Indies at Lauderhill in the United States of America in 2016 held the record earlier alone. Even that game was a thriller as the Men in Blue had fallen only a run short of a heroic chase of 246.

Which are the other matches?

India were once again involved in a high-scoring game recently when Sri Lanka visited the country last year. It was the game in Indore when the stand-in skipper of the hosts Rohit Sharma had smashed a 35-ball ton by pummeling the Sri Lankan bowlers on a flat deck. The visitors tried to match them and failed but not before their batsmen also enjoyed their time in the middle. As many as 31 sixes were hit during the game and was an absolute treat for the fans in the Stadium.

The other two matches in the list are quite surprising with 30 sixes being hit when Ireland faced off Netherlands during the World T20 in Bangladesh in 2014. Ireland was yet again involved in a high scoring game and this time it was against Afghanistan in Greater Noida, their adopted home ground, in March last year.

While these flat decks provide entertainment for the spectators for more than three hours, this surely dents the confidence of the bowlers as they go for a lot of runs. The format heavily favours the batsmen which was once again experienced in Auckland.
