Dilruwan Perera produced career-best bowling figures of 6/70 in the second innings of the 2nd Test, as Australia were bundled out for 183 to give Sri Lanka a series win against the No. 1 Test team. Sri Lankan spinner Perera made an entry into the record books with his all-round performance as Sri Lanka closed out a crushing series victory over the Australians in Galle.

With the wicket of Josh Hazlewood, Perera picked up his sixth wicket for the innings to become the first Sri Lankan to claim 10 wickets and score a 50 in the same match after his 64 runs with the bat in the second innings. The second-innings haul was also the fourth five-wicket haul in Test cricket for Perera, to go along with figures of 4/29 in the first innings. He scored his second Test half-century on day two to take the home side’s lead well beyond the reach of the touring Australians.

He claimed just one wicket in the first Test at Pallekele, but the 34-year-old has silenced all the critics with this performance to leave the Australian line-up in ruins with a Test still to play.

The key wickets of David Warner, Steve Smith and Adam Voges in the morning session of Day 3 ensure the win, and from there it was just a matter of how long Australia can fight against the Sri Lankan spinners. The all-round display sees Perera join Rumesh Ratnayake, Vaas (on two occasions) and Malinga as the only players from the island nation to score a fifty and claim a five-wicket haul in the same Test.

Perera is the first player from Sri Lanka to claim 10 wickets and score 50 runs or more in the same Test and is the 25th player in international cricket to achieve the feat, which was first recorded by Billy Bates of England in 1883. Bates scored 55 runs and picked 14 wickets in that match. The only Indian in the list is Kapil Dev, who scored 84 runs and returned with 11 wickets against arch-rivals Pakistan in 1980.
