Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) batsman Chris Gayle got out on 99 for the first time in T20 cricket on Friday. He smacked six fours and 8 sixes during his stay in the middle and was unfortunate not to get to his ton. Even then, he created a record and became the first cricketer to hit a mammoth 1000 sixes in the shortest format of the game. Overall, he smacked 84 sixes for KXIP in the IPL to go with 90 fours.
Interestingly, KXIP is his 26th team in T20 cricket and the legendary cricketer hasn’t disappointed any of his sides. He has scored most sixes for another IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) which released him ahead of the 2018 auction. The Universe Boss has hit as many as 263 maximums in RCB colours and has hit the same number of fours after featuring in 91 matches for them.
He has smacked 124 sixes for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team Jamaica Tallawahs in 53 innings. Representing his country West Indies in 58 T20 Internationals, the 41-year-old has sent the ball out of the park on 105 occasions.
Chris Gayle has played in BBL and BPL too
Chris Gayle owns all the T20 leagues across the world and has featured in the Big Bash League (BBL) and Bangldesh Premier League (BPL) as well. Playing for Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades, the southpaw has smashed 31 and 20 sixes respectively. Being the T20 freelancer, Gayle featured in a lot of domestic T20 tournaments of different countries before they were officially converted intoT20 leagues.
He started his IPL career with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) featuring for them in 16 matches and ended up hitting 45 fours and 26 sixes. The numbers look unusual here but from it was just the start of what was to come. After playing some superb T20 cricket and entertaining the audience for so many years in RCB colours, Chris Gayle almost went unsold in the mega auction held ahead of IPL 2018.
But KXIP placed a bid for him at the last moment and the man has made his stay with the franchise memorable with them. However, he is yet to win an IPL trophy and will be keen on taking his team to the title this time around.
