After getting whitewashed at the hands of the Proteas very recently, the Aussies would have hoped to turn around their fortunes with the ODI series against New Zealand and the Sydney crowd witnessed a brilliant knock from their captain Steve Smith in the very 1st ODI of the series. It was a scintillating century from the Aussie skipper which enabled the hosts to post a mammoth 324/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
Smith was the lone warrior in the battlefield as he kept losing partners, especially in the first 20 overs. At one stage the hosts were precariously placed at 92/4 and it was the 4th wicket partnership between Smith and Travis Head that bailed the hosts out of trouble.
Courtesy his brilliant innings which was decorated with 14 fours and 4 sixes, Smith went past AB de Villiers to become the highest individual scorer in Sydney. SCG has been traditionally a high-scoring ground and batsman from all over the world have cherished playing at this ground.
