Stats: Virat Kohli breaks hoards of records with his double ton

After an eventful 3rd day with milestones, Virat Kohli continued it on the 4th day as well adding 88 more runs to his overnight score of 147 at the Wankhede Stadium. In this process, the Indian Test captain hit his 3rd double ton in the format with all of them coming in 2016. Here we look at all the records and stats made by the run machine during his breathtaking knock.

2 – Virat Kohli became the first Indian and 5th player overall to score three double centuries in Test cricket in a calendar year.

3 – He is now the 3rd player after Michael Clarke and Brendon McCullum to score 3 double tons in Tests as captain in a calendar year. Clarke scored 4 in 2012 while McCullum scored 3 in 2014.

3 – Virat now has scored a double century in three consecutive Test series. He is only the 3rd player after Don Bradman and Rahul Dravid to do so. Kohli is the first player to score a double century in three successive Test series as captain.

65.50 – His batting average of 65.50 as captain in Tests is the 2nd highest for any player. Highest is 101.51 by Don Bradman. (Min: 2000 runs)

89 – Innings taken by Virat to score 3 double centuries in Test cricket, the 2nd fewest by an India. Sehwag took 63 Test innings to score 3 double tons for India. (Excluding 2 innings played for ICC World XI)

235 – Virat Kohli’s 235 is now the highest individual score by an Indian captain in Tests beating MS Dhoni’s 224 in 2013 at Chennai vs Australia.

235 – Virat Kohli’s 235 is the highest individual score by an Indian against England in Tests. Previous highest was 224 by Vinod Kambli in 1993 also at the Wankhede.

242* – Highest individual score at Wankhede is 242* by Clive Lloyd for West Indies vs India in 1974. Virat Kohli’s 235 is the 2nd highest individual score at this venue.

600 – Virat Kohli completed 600 runs in this Test series. This is the 2nd time he has aggregated 600 runs in a Test series. He is only the 3rd Indian to aggregate 600 runs in a Test series twice. Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid are the other two.

640 – Runs scored by Kohli in this series, the 2nd most by any player in a single India-England Test series. 752 runs are the most by Graham Gooch in 1990 in England.

949 – Runs scored by Virat Kohli in 2016/17 season at home, the 2nd most by any captain in a home season in Tests. Graham Gooch scored 1054 runs in 1990 season at home.

956 – Runs scored by Virat Kohli between his two sixes in Test cricket. He hit his 10th six in Tests in the 2nd Test match against West Indies in West Indies. Since then he added 956 runs before hitting his 11th six of his Test career at Mumbai in this game.

2580 – Runs scored by Virat Kohli in 2016 in international cricket, the joint 2nd most runs scored by an Indian in a calendar year. Rahul Dravid scored 2626 runs while Sourav Ganguly scored 2580 runs in 1999.
