The second edition of the world’s only T10 League will soon get underway, and it’s of no surprise that some of the biggest superstars in cricket have once again been roped in. The 10-over competition begins in November, for which the draft picks were completed on September 24 in the UAE. While the teams have been picked, it’s time for the coaches who will marshall their troupes to find a spot in one of the 8 teams.

The Bengal Tigers have brought in former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming as coach for the second edition of the T10 League. The tournament’s Twitter handle wrote, “The legendary Kiwi batsman will use his expertise and coach the @BengalTigersUAE for #T10League season 2. #BusAbDus #BengalTigers”. Stephen Fleming has also been involved with the Chennai Super Kings and the Rising Pune Supergiant in the Indian Premier League.

This edition of the T10 league will see three new teams. However, Team Sri Lanka will no longer be taking part in the tournament. As a result, the total number of teams will be up to 8 as opposed to 6 from last year. The three new teams are Karachians, Rajputs, and Northern Warriors. Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host all the matches, which will be played over 10 days.

Chris Gayle goes to Kerala Kings

Chris Gayle was the first player to be picked by defending champions Kerala Kings. The tournament has also been recognized by the ICC as the world’s first 10-over league. The icon players for the six teams are Eoin Morgan, Rashid Khan, Shahid Afridi, Sunil Narine, Shoaib Malik and Shane Watson.

“The T10 Cricket League is gaining ground with the formal recognition of the International Cricket Council and the interest shown by the stakeholders that encouraged us to add two new teams to the league,” Nawab Shaji Ul Mulk, chairman of the T10 Cricket League and T10 Sports Management, said.

“The team draw is a testimony to the growing popularity of not only the T10 Cricket League but also the game of cricket, which can now be played in less than two hours.

“This year’s T10 Cricket League will help expand and popularise the game of cricket further. We see this as a growing movement and I urge all to join this and help take the game further,” he added.

The previous edition – which was also the inaugural edition – of the tournament was a huge success, with Kerala Kings emerging as winners.
