Steve Peter Devereux Smith – the unorthodox batting freak turns 26 today!: One of the most difficult batsmen to bowl to in world cricket now is unarguably this man, Steve Peter Devereux Smith. He is an extremely talented batsman with an unconventional batting technique that is unique in its own way which makes it tougher for the bowlers to get him out.
What is more surprising about his flair in batting is that he was primarily roped in the side for his leg spin bowling abilities. But has grown steadily in leaps and bounds and is an indispensable batsman for Australia in all three forms of the game. Steve Smith is ranked 4th in the ICC test batsmen’s rankings owing to his consistent performances in the whole of 2014. He averages over 40 in ODI’s and over 50 in tests, a testimony to his remarkable consistency and appreciable temperament.
The young right hander loves to hit the deliveries on the leg side and if you bowl to him on his legs its almost certain that you’ll be penalized. Steve Smith plays in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals and has played lot of memorable and match winning knocks that are inscribed in the hearts of the team’s fans. He is also a KFC Big Bash League winner with his team Sydney Sixers. He is a brilliant fielder with incredible agility, quick reflexes and swift speed. He has taken some unthinkable catches and is one of the top fielders in world cricket.
Steve Smith made his debut in 2010 and he rose in stature and maturity slowly but surely and has now become the vice-captain of his team. Steve smith put up some stellar performances against India in the recently concluded test match series down under amassing over 700 runs that helped his side trounce India. What is intriguing about his batting style is that he moves around the crease frequently with a splendid hand-eye co-ordination and relies on timing. He is a busy player, and we rarely see Smith’s strike rate drop low as he continues to rotate the strike.
