After Mahendra Singh Dhoni was sacked as the captain of the Rising Pune Supergiants, Steve Smith’s captaincy was under the scanner. His role in the team was the prime focus prior to the commencement of the cash-rich tournament.

However, Steven Smith’s 84 off 54 balls shut down all criticism and apprehension regarding his captaincy, after the end of the Maharashtra derby last night. He steered his team to a victory by hitting two crucial sixes in the final two balls of the innings.

Smith found another admirer of his captaincy, this time in the form of young Mayank Aggarwal, who was released by the Delhi Daredevils and bought by the SuperGiants this season of IPL. This player from Karnataka was all praises for the new captain for his approachable nature and openness which brings in energy into the side.

According to iplT20.com, the Bangalore lad said “He is very understanding and approachable as a captain. We go up to him if we have a suggestion and he listens to it. He brings intensity on the field. He has got a lot of experience and that helps us”. He also cited that its an advantage to have won the very first game of the tournament.

“It’s good to have a winning start. The team has gained confidence and the momentum will be with us” quoting the opener. Mayank also confirmed that he obtains a lot of inspiration from the former Indian captain and as an emerging player, a lot of knowledge is at disposal from Dhoni.

“He (Dhoni) is always inspirational. He is very nice to have in the dressing room. We get to learn a lot from him as youngsters,” he added. The right-hander who has played for RCB and Delhi Daredevils before augmented that there exists a scope for improvement for the Pune squad and would look to improve in the upcoming game against Kings XI Punjab.

“Against Kings XI Punjab, we will give 100 per cent. We would like to implement our game plan. The result is not in our hand.” he concluded.
