The Australian side picked up a comprehensive win (by an innings & five runs) over the visiting Pakistanis at the fortress masquerading as a cricket ground at the Gabba in Brisbane. David Warner scored more runs in an innings that he has managed during the entire Ashes Tour while Marnus Labuschagne continued to impress as a Test match batsman when he racked up his maiden ton (185) as the hosts compiled 540 runs in their first innings.

And, what was the most surprising thing in all of this, is that the chief architect of Australia’s Ashes retaining campaign- Steve Smith– who racked up a colossal 774 runs across the four Tests, missed out from scoring on his home turf. Smith faced just nine balls before he was dismissed for 4 by Yasir Shah. Shah has claimed the prized wicket of Smith seven times in six Tests, something he didn’t fail to remind the former Aussie captain when he raised four fings and a thumb of his one hand and two fingers of his other at the Gabba.

Shah’s reaction have proceeded to motivate Smith and the right-hander reckoned he’ll be more disciplined against the leg-spinner during the Adelaide Test, which is supposed to be a pink-ball affair

“It gave me a bit more motivation next game to not get out to him. So I will probably be a little bit more disciplined against him.’ Smith was quoted as saying by Daily Mail ahead of the Adelaide Test.

When Steve Smith punished himself after a rare failure in Brisbane

Smith then revealed that he treats himself whenever he scores a ton or gets out cheaply. According to Smith, he inflicted some self-abuse when he ran three kilometres back to the hotel training instead of catching a bus followed by training in the nets. He also admitted that he treats himself with a chocolate bar whenever he scores a ton.

“I always punish myself when I get no runs, just like I reward myself when I score runs with a chocolate bar at the end of the night if I get a hundred,” he said. “So yeah, if I get no runs I always like to have a run or go to the gym or do something just to give myself a bit of punishment,” Smith said.

Yasir Shah has claimed Smith a few times but the champion Australian batsman isn’t too perturbed about it.

“I feel the times he (Shah) has got me out, I have been on a few runs. I have been slogging in a couple of second innings ones where I was playing some funky shots and stuff so I’m not too worried.” Smith added.
