Rising Pune Supergiants have been dented with some major injury blows ahead of the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League. They had a disappointing run last season under the leadership of MS Dhoni and had finished at the penultimate position in the points table. This year, the franchise owners have replaced him with Steve Smith as their leader. There is absolutely no doubt about the experience and credibility of Steve Smith as a leader.

He is the national team captain of the Australian side and has done a fantastic job with the role. There are many who feel there might be some awkwardness in the camp with two players of huge captaincy stature playing under the same umbrella. However, if the words of the family members of the Australian skipper are to be believed, then Steve will be heavily relying on MS Dhoni for tactical inputs during the IPL 2017.

As per the quotes in Deccan Chronicle, the senior Smith noted that MS Dhoni has vast captaincy experience and is a veteran IPL player. He will surely be one of the players to look up to for the Steve in the tournament.

“MS Dhoni has a vast wealth of experience in the IPL and international cricket. I am sure he will be one of the senior players on whom Steven will rely for tactical input throughout the game,” he quoted.

Adding further, he said that it comes as an absolute pleasure to his son captain the Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL. He believes leading any team comes as a matter of great pride. However, he refused to comment on the fact that Steve replaced Dhoni as the captain of the side. He remarked that the decision was made by the franchise owners.

“It is a great privilege to be asked to captain any side. The Supergiants franchise has a number of good international and Indian players and it would be very exciting to have the opportunity to lead them,” Smith’s father quoted.

“The decision to replace MS Dhoni with Steven is one made by the franchise owners and not a decision on which I should comment,” he conceded further.

RPS will play their first match of the season against Mumbai Indians at Pune.
