The Hobart Hurricanes got off to a stupendous start, beating the 2019-20 BBL champions Sydney Sixers by 16 runs. The team, captained by Peter Handscomb set a reasonable target of 179, which turned out to be a bridge too far for the Sixers, who were restricted to 162.
The Hurricanes will next be up against the Adelaide Strikers in the first of Sunday’s doubleheader at the Bellerive Oval. Despite the win, the Hurricanes have revamped their squad, adding David Moody and Will Parker to their earlier 14-man squad.
The Strikers, on the other hand, have added four players, namely Matt Renshaw, Danny Briggs, Daniel Worrall and Ryan Gibson, who all are yet to play for them. On head-to-head count, the Strikers are 8-5 ahead. But at the Bellerive Oval, the Hurricanes have a 2-1 lead.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in Hobart was a decent one for batting in Thursday’s match. The batters were able to play their shots on the up. The deck also had something for the bowlers, especially for the fast bowlers.
It might assist the spinners a bit more since it’s a day game. The playing conditions will be pleasant with the temperature around 19 degrees Celsius. The humidity won’t be high with the numbers in the 50s.

Probable Top Performers for STR vs HUR
Rashid Khan– Adelaide Strikers
Rashid Khan has weaved magic in tournaments around the globe. Even in the BBL, he has shown his class. In 40 matches, the youngster has picked up 56 wickets at an economy rate of 6.37.
Not to forget the utility he brings in with the bat in hand. Rashid has 253 runs in the BBL at an incredible strike-rate of 161.15. It includes a total of 40 and as many as 17 sixes to show for his efforts.
D’Arcy Short– Hobart Hurricanes
D’Arcy Short is the all-time leading run-scorer for the Hurricanes in the BBL, having scored 1764 runs at an average and strike-rate of 45.23 and 143.18 respectively.
He had a decent outing against India and that should keep him in good stead. However, he got out for a duck last time around against the Sixers and would be keen to make amends. Not to forget that he is more than with his leg-spin.
