Mason Crane, the English leg-spinner has recently been ruled out of the rest of the county season owing to a stress fracture in his back. He made his international debut back in June 2017 and then forayed into Test cricket during the Ashes versus arch-rivals Australia. He was also selected in his country’s previous tour of New Zealand, however, the same back injury forced him out of the series.

He recently played for Hampshire in England’s domestic One-Day Cup where he picked up 15 wickets in eight matches and turned out to be their leading wicket-taker. Hampshire won the tournament and Crane played a crucial role. Crane also played the Final versus Kent, but he took a painkiller prior to the match in order to sustain during the contest. Quite expectantly, he sounded disappointed on missing out.

“Try and look forward”- Crane

“It’s heartbreaking I’ll miss so much cricket. It’s a real shame with the return of the same injury and so frustrating. The injection was purely to get me through the final. It was definitely worth taking those risks for such a big game. It’s a small risk for one game as stress fractures don’t get much worse in one day. It’s the build-up over time really,” Crane was quoted as saying by BBC Radio.

“There’s no point in getting too down about it. I’ve just got to try and look forward and try and get fit for next season. There will be a period of rest, initially for a few weeks, and then we’ll look at lots of rehabilitation to get back into it and get it right,” the 21-year old added while owing to attain desired fitness before the start of the next season.

Hampshire’s next assignment is the domestic T20 Blast which gets underway from July 4. Hampshire is placed in the South Group and their first match is versus Glamorgan at the Rose Bowl on Friday, July 6.
