In second of five-match One-Day International series between India and West Indies, India defeated the host by a hefty margin of 105 runs. Once again, their top three batsmen took up the responsibility and played with right intent which helped India post a mammoth total of 310 runs on the board. For the Indian team once again, it was Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli who made sizzling 63 and 87 runs respectively. However, the star for the match was Ajinkya Rahane who managed to score his third ODI hundred.
Stuart Law speaks after defeat against India
West Indies head coach, Stuart Law wasn’t happy with how things went for his side in the first half of the match. It was a tame bowling effort as all three top order batsmen for India managed to score 50+ runs on a damp wicket which should have helped the bowlers to pick some early wickets.
“We didn’t bowl anywhere near as well as we could’ve done and that’s probably the first time that’s happened since I’ve been here so you can live with that to a certain extent,” Law told reporters following the 105-run defeat. “But you’ve got to be better than that with the ball. The way we started, the way we set the tone for our innings wasn’t how we wanted to do it and I think at times our plans didn’t quite work out.”
Believes his team can bounce back
Law, however, believes that his boys should understand that they are playing against a top-class team and should put in an effort to compete with a team of that stratum.
“We’ve got to understand that India are number three in the world for a reason and they’ve ben hovering around that top three for quite a while now,” Law explained. “They’ve got some of the best players, if not the best players in the world up there so we know that we’ve got to play really well and compete really hard to get anything out of these games but there is no reason why we can’t.”
However, he believes that his team can put some exceptional performances in coming games and do what they did against the Champion side, Pakistan.
“We pushed Pakistan all the way when they were out here recently. We beat them chasing down 308 in the first ODI and in the last two we nearly got over the line as well so those performances are in us,” he concluded.
