Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has forever been heard through the stump microphone suggesting his bowlers on either what they should do or a preempt what the batsman is trying to do. It almost looks like the Indian team are playing with two skippers on the field, with Dhoni helping the designated captain Virat Kohli with strategies and field changes in almost all matches.
Dhoni has always been active on the field, be it with his conversations with the bowlers or be it with the constant field changes in the fag end of the game when Virat, one of the best fielders in the team is in the deep guarding the boundary. The wicketkeeper was in action in the 2nd ODI when his moves were recorded on stump mic alongside his instructions to the skipper.
It happened during one of Kedar Jadhav‘s overs, where Dhoni adviced the slow bowler to stick to the same line that he was bowling till then. Also, he suggested field alterations to Kohli, who was standing at the boundary line.
Here is what Dhoni could be heard saying:
“Bahut Badiyaa…, Cheeku (Virat) do-teen jan ko idhar chod de, yahan se karne de jo karna hai.
Ye ball acha hai iske (for Latham) liye beech beech me har teesra ball ek dal sakta hai. Bahut badhiya, Kedu (Kedar).
When Kedar was bowling to Nicholls Dhoni promoted, “Bahut badhiya, theek hai dalta reh, ek baar karengey phir dimag me ghusta hai, dalte hi rehna.h
Cheeku, ek ball aur rakhega ek ball jo pehle raka tha main catch ke liye.”
The duo of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni will be crucial in paving the future of this young Indian team and their relationship thus far is a great example of mutual respect and trust of the highest order between two pillars of the unit.
