Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer of the ongoing five-match series against England. Virat has scored 640 runs after four Tests which includes two half centuries, 167 in the Vizag Test and a double century that he scored in the Mumbai Test. He revised his best individual score as well as the best score by an Indian captain in Tests with his 235 in the first inning. It was his third double ton in Tests in the year and that has put him on the same lines with the legend Sir Donal Bradman, Ricky Ponting and former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum.

Only one player, who stands ahead of him, is former Australian skipper Michael Clarke who scored 4 double hundreds in 2012. Indian batting legend and the little master Sunil Gavaskar feels that Kohli can score another double and join Clarke in the exclusive club.

Gavaskar added, “Kohli can very well score four double centuries (in this year) as India still have one more Test to play against England. His form, throughout the year, has been brilliant. And his 235 at the Wankhede Stadium was absolutely special. I think the people present at the stadium on Sunday were privileged to see such a master class. There were several youngsters in the stands and it would be a great learning experience for them.”

Coming into 2016 Virat didn’t have a single double century to his name in Test cricket. He has featured in 11 matches and scored 1200 runs at an average of 80. The first of the three double centuries he scored was in the Antigua Test against West Indies, he followed it up with a 211-run knock in the next series against New Zealand and bettered them all with the 235 in Mumbai.

“The way he was running between the wickets shows a great deal about his physical fitness. With improved fitness, you become mentally stronger. Kohli didn’t allow any sort of weakness. He scored runs quickly and was mentally sharp.” Gavaskar said.

With the last Test of the series to be played in Chennai from December 16, which is the last match of the year Virat has a great chance to equal Clarke’s record.
