Following his rift with skipper Virat Kohli, Indian cricket team’s head coach Anil Kumble had not other option but to resign. The 28-year-old captain of the Men in Blue was reportedly against the authoritarian enigma of the former Indian skipper. Kohli and his boys were apparently deprived of individual freedom in the dressing room. In addition to that, Kumble’s practice sessions were too tiring for the team.

Following his resignation, many former Indian cricketers are bashing Kohli for his king-sized ego. The new addition in the list if former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar. The little master is disgusted at the attitude of the cricketers and wants the BCCI to drop all the cricketers who complained about Kumble’s coaching methods.

“If any of the players are complaining, I feel those players are the ones who should be left out of the team,” said ‘Sunny’ while speaking to NDTV.

He was disappointed at the way a proven fighter like Kumble gave up. “Anil must have had his reasons (of resigning). I would have thought Anil would carry on. Once the CAC expressed their confidence in him, Anil should have stuck around. Hope he will take it on the chin and comes back stronger. But it is the first time a known fighter like Anil did not stand up,” said the 67-year old commentator.

CAC should do more for Indian cricket

The new head coach will be selected by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which comprises of three former Indian cricketers – Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. Gavaskar wants the CAC to do more for Indian cricket than just selecting the head coach. “I know that the CAC met Virat and had a very long session with him. Anil’s experience as a player and as an administrator needs to be utilised. CAC should be doing more for Indian cricket than just selecting the coach,” opined the owner of 34 Test hundreds.
