The second season of the T20 Mumbai League will begin on May 14 and after an impressive first season played in 2018, expectations are higher this time. Last time around, the Mumbai League had given an opportunity for the talent in the coastal city of Maharashtra a platform to perform and impress IPL franchises and it resulted in all-rounder Shivam Dube getting a deal worth INR 5 crores from Royal Challengers Bangalore.

This time, however, the T20 league will be played after the IPL concludes and former India and Mumbai stalwart Sunil Gavaskar feels that such scheduling does no benefit to the local tournament. He has urged the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to organize the league well before the auction of the IPL. He even cited the example of Dube while putting his point forward.

More talent is going to come out of T20 Mumbai league

Gavaskar was present at a gathering, along with former teammate Dilip Vengsarkar and another Mumbai and Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is also the brand ambassador of the tournament.

“Shivam Dube got an IPL contract after (playing in T20 Mumbai League), Suryakumar Yadav also got a big contract and I am pretty certain that there will be many more coming from this league, who will be wanted by the IPL franchises for the next season,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar felt that in coming years, players from all over the country will want to have a piece of the Mumbai T20 league and be a part of it.

“T20 Mumbai League is soon going to be a league that most of the players from across the nation will want to participate in. For so many years, the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team was the side that all players would have wanted to feature in. The brand of cricket played by the Mumbai Ranji team would have made most players keen to be a part of that squad,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying.

Recently the players’ auction for the T20 Mumbai League was held in which Arjun Tendulkar, was picked for INR 5 lakhs by the Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburb.
